a work in-progress

an attempt to look for Hope in all circumstances.
though i may fail seventy-seven times.

notes

1st half has to do with the way we see our position before God.  basically, when we think we are being humble we need to be humbled.

“Our minds need to move away from us, there is nothing healthier for us, spiritually, then to move our minds away from ourselves.

The minute you think you have something to with your own salvation, you have misunderstood the grace of God.  The minute you think you’ve gotten somewhere, you’ve forgotten the gracious will of our heavenly Father, you’ve undermined what salvation actually is.”  from Doctrine of God class, Dr. Oliphint.

2nd half, poignant questions to reflect and pray about.

“Are you purposeful (without being the counselor)?  Do you move conversations one step deeper?  What is ‘deeper’?  And how do you do it?  Is it natural for you to talk about Jesus?  Or do you switch to another voice?  Is there secular momentum in your relationships?  Do you move towards others and know them well enough to pray with them?  Do you listen?  Are you always scanning for the work of the Spirit?  A grace-hunt more than a sin-hunt?  Do you you know how to love those who suffer?  Do you feel like you have to give an answer?  The thorny matter of advice.  Do you handle other people’s trouble with care- like fine china?  What if the person is confessing sin?  The thorny matter of confrontation or rebuke.  Are you personal?  Are you affected by the person?  Are you open?  What does ‘open’ even mean?  It means all of your story is available because you rest in Christ.  What are your weaknesses or common mistakes in everyday conversations?”  from Helping Relationships class, Ed Welch.
